Lomatium is an herb similar to the parsley or dill plant. It is a member of the family, umbellifereae. It grows in the Western United States and was used extensively by the American Indians in the treatment of many types of respiratory ailments, including pneumonia, asthma, bronchitis, and hay fever. It has also been helpful for urinary infections. Because of its anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties, it may be useful in the treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. There has not been much formal scientific research on Lomatium, but its success has been reported by many people and has prompted some naturopaths to call for clinical studies to examine its effect on pneumonia.
